“Fellow Old Lyonian,

You will know that we have been trying to sell our sports ground at Pinner View for development for more than three decades.

Attempts to sell the ground for housing development, to several of the largest national developers, have fallen through on each occasion, primarily because there was little likelihood of achieving planning permission from the Harrow Council.

Until recently, we were optimistic that a proposed plan for our ground to be developed for a new primary school - The Mariposa Primary School - would be successful, especially as the project had received funding from the Education Funding Authority.

Unfortunately, I can now inform you that we have heard from Lord Agnew, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Schools System that the Secretary of State has withdrawn the funding for this project and it has been formally cancelled. This is because of a reported lack of need for primary school places in the area, the difficulty in obtaining planning permission for the project from the Council, and the location of Pinner View not being ideal for two planned housing developments in the area.

This is obviously extremely disappointing news for us and for the Mariposa Primary School, which has already appointed a School Head and had pretty much a full uptake of places for their planned first year.

The Old Lyonian Council sub-committee which has been working hard on this, and previous development projects for the sale of our ground at Pinner View, will be meeting to review where we are and what other options we have for the site.

I will keep you informed should we receive any new concrete proposals.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Matarewicz
